Kate Scott arrived late Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas. But she wasn’t headed to the tables or slots. Or likely a show, club or fancy restaurant.
Scott was there to prepare to be a sideline reporter for four games Thursday and four more Friday in the Pac-12 Conference’s women’s basketball tournament, on the league’s television network.
“It’s not often people say they are in Vegas for work and actually mean it,” she said, chuckling, by telephone. “But I am.”
That’s just the beginning of her whirlwind run, which culminates at 6:30 p.m. Sunday when she will do the play-by-play of the Blues-Blackhawks game for NBCSN. And it won’t be just her first hockey broadcast, it will be the first NHL contest that is telecast by an all-female crew — from the production truck to the announcers in the booth, the on-ice reporter and the studio team.
“It’s so awesome because it’s so rare that I get to work with other women,” said Scott, who calls basketball and football games — with some of her work on NBCSN. “To get the opportunity to do this with women who are in it day in and day out and have done it for years . . .
